A free online event will feature leading plant-based experts, in order to explore the environmental impact of animal agriculture, and the subsequent benefits of switching to a plant-based diet.
Plant-Based Climate Summit takes place on April 1.
The event, hosted by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), features over a dozen leading experts including Ocean Robbins, Dr. Michael Greger, and Dr. Neal Barnard.
Plant-Based Climate Summit
The program’s host is Dr. Barnard, of the PCRM – a consortium of doctors that promote a plant-based diet. He will introduce the impact animal agriculture has on both human health, and the environment.
Next, guest speakers will address the effects diets have on greenhouse gas emissions, water and air pollution, land use, and infectious diseases.
Those among the speakers include plant-based food blogger and author Jenné Claiborne and doctors Joanne Kong and Leslie Duram.
Additionally, the summit includes a live Q&A and cooking demonstrations as well as tips to help viewers go vegan for 21 days.
Sneak preview
The sneak preview features a swathe of news reports detailing extreme weather last year, including the fires in California, Australia, and the Amazon Rainforest.

We’ve changed the ways animals live on a global scale’, says leading plant-based medic, Dr. Greger.
‘A global shift to a plant-based diet could reduce greenhouse gases caused by food production by 70 percent’, adds Dr. Barnard.
PCRM’s director of nutrition, education Dr. Susan Levin, told PBN: “From catastrophic fires in Australia and the Amazon to severe snowstorms in Texas, recent events have shown us that it’s more important than ever to take steps to put an end to the ongoing climate crisis.
“Studies continue to show that shifting to a plant-based diet is not only good for our health, but good for the planet, too.
“We’re so excited to bring together experts who will shine a light on the many ways animal agriculture impacts the planet and how a plant-based diet can help.”
Plant-based diets and the environment
Animal agriculture has been linked by scientists and medics as a cause of the COVID-19 pandemic – which is believed to have begun in a wet market.
Additionally, the summit comes after an abundance of studies uncovered the environmental impact of animal agriculture.
For example, the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organizations (FAO) report states that animal agriculture is responsible for 14.5 percent of greenhouse gas emissions.
