Acclaimed author and prolific vegan activist Juliet Gellatley has warned how ‘the vast majority of newly emerging diseases come from animals’.
Gellatley, who is the Founder of vegan charity Viva!, spoke about her ‘3 in 4’ campaign on the latest episode of the Plant Based News Podcast – hosted by PBN’s co-founder Robbie Lockie.
‘Shout loud and clear’
The viral campaign, which received widespread coverage from national press and celebrities including actor Peter Egan, aimed to shed light on how three in four of the world’s new and emerging infectious diseases come from animals.
Gellatley, whose one-minute video on the origins of COVID-19 also went viral, told Lockie the ‘3 in 4’ campaign was to ‘shout loud and clear’ about the risk of zoonotic diseases.
‘So much nonsense’
“There has been so much nonsense taught through this whole COVID-19 episode you would think that it had never happened before,” she said.
“When in fact, it’s happening all the time; the viruses mutate and jump from animals to humans.”
On the podcast, the pair also discuss the origins of COVID-19, Viva!’s biggest campaigns, the tension between vegetarians and vegans, and much more.
