‘The Queen of Vegan Cheese’ aka Miyoko Schinner is the guest on this week’s episode of the Plant Based News podcast.

In an interview with PBN Co-founder Robbie Lockie, Schinner talks about childhood and growing up in Japan, the local culture and cuisine, the explosion of the vegan cheese industry, and the junk food explosion in the USA among other topics.

She also discusses her vegan journey.

‘The wrong thing’

“Factory farming is evil for sure, but just going back to the old way, and becoming a small family farm, isn’t necessarily the answer,” she said.

“I live in ag[ricultural] land, I’m surrounded by organic dairy farms that are now being seen as the solution for sustainable agriculture, and people feel like ‘I don’t have to give up dairy after all. I just have to choose the right kind of dairy’.

“I think what we have to ask is, is there any way of doing the wrong thing better?”
