The collaboration sees the UK’s largest hotel brand adding vegan bacon to its buffet menu at all of its 800+ hotels.

The plant-based bacon rashers – which boast 25 grams of protein per 100 grams, and contain iron and vitamin B12 – were crafted by THIS using pea and soy protein.

The bacon will be available as part of Premier Inn’s all-you-can-eat buffet, as well as its kids-eat-free deal.

Hungry for meat-free options

It comes as a seemingly ever-growing number of Brits are making a conscious effort to eat fewer animal products. In fact, research released by Quorn in September found that 41 percent of families in the UK are flexitarian or meat-free.

Yet many want to see more plant-based food when dining out.

A census-wide survey conducted by THIS in May found that 75 percent of Brits wished hotels, cafes, and restaurants offered more plant-based options.

The same survey discovered that nearly half (48 percent) of UK residents are interested in eating plant-based sausage or bacon for breakfast.

“Breakfast is a great occasion for people to get together, and our well-loved breakfast is a great value and hassle-free way to do that,” said Simon Jones, managing director for Premier Inn.

“With the recent introduction of our new vegan bacon in partnership with THIS, there’s now even more choice so no one has to miss out!”

THIS co-founder Andy Shovel echoed this sentiment, saying that the partnership is “really promising and timely,” given the UK public’s rising interest in meat-free food.

Hoffman is among the financial backers of Hooray Foods, which is now celebrating a hefty $2.7 million investment.

Vegan bacon

The company creates plant-based bacon “that looks, cooks, and tastes like the real thing,” made from a blend of coconut oil, rice flour, and liquid smoke.

Its recent injection of funds means it can continue its development, following a successful launch in more than 1,000 stores up and down the US.

Now, the vegan bacon brand has sold over two million strips.

Hoffmann says he is looking forward to “guiding” Hooray Foods. And, he anticipates it becoming a national “must-have.”

Dunkin’

Hoffmann is credited for bringing on board the Beyond Meat Breakfast Sandwich during his stint at Dunkin‘. The businessman has also worked high up aboard McDonald’s.

Commenting on the launch of the Beyond sandwich at Dunkin’ in 2019, Hoffmann said: “We’re all headed into a ‘better-for-you’ platform. We’re going to look at plant-based proteins as well, going forward.”

Since then, Dunkin has added the Beyond Sausage Sandwich to its vegan offerings. The company’s vegan offerings also include bagels, hash browns, and muffins.

Customers can choose to have the P.I.B Sub in either a six-inch sub, footlong, salad, or wrap. It’s dubbed to be “meaty” in taste while being 100 percent meatless.

It comes a year after Subway rolled out its successful Tiger Pig Sub on tiger bread. The brand celebrated strong hype for the meaty version but decided it wanted to offer something to its vegan and flexitarian guests as well.

And, it joins the festive menu which is available in-store and for delivery until December 28 while stocks last.

But it’s only consumers in the West Midlands who will be able to try it. This is because the P.I.B is only available in select stores including Birmingham, Coventry, and Wolverhampton.

The popular food chain just released its autumn menu. On it, are two new plant-based items: a sausage breakfast roll and a bacon breakfast roll.

The vegan sausage sandwich, which comes with Quorn sausages, will be available at more than 600 Greggs stores nationwide. Meanwhile, the meat-free bacon roll will be on offer at more than 100 locations.

The bakery chain made headlines in 2019. This was when it released its first-ever vegan sausage roll. The pastry quickly proved popular, immediately selling out across the country. 

Greggs thanked the launch, in part, for its subsequent 14.1 percent rise in sales. Following this, Greggs handed out £7 million to its approximately 19,000 employees. 

The success of the vegan sausage roll inspired the chain to introduce plant-based steak bakes at 1,300 of its stores across the UK. 

The chain has ramped up its efforts since then, announcing vegan glazed ring donuts, and ham and cheese baguettes featuring plant-based giants Violife and Quorn and available either hot or cold. 

More recently, it unveiled veganized versions of its ‘legendary’ sausage, bean and cheese melts.

It comes after Ramsay’s long history of criticizing vegans. Despite this, he was named a spokesperson for vegan milk brand Silk this summer.

Costa released its latest vegan addition last week, as part of its new autumn menu.

It’s made with Naked Bacon Without The Oink! by Finnebrogue and on offer for £3. The brand claims: “‘There really is nothing like the taste and smell of proper bacon. But these delicious rashers are made without the oink.”

Earlier this year, Gordon Ramsay was criticized for a viral TikTok video in a Costa drive-thru. 

In it, he returns the bacon in a bacon bap and laughs with a member of staff about his infamous ‘idiot sandwich’ joke.

Additionally, he lambasts the company for microwaving the bacon rather than grilling it. ‘Tell Mr. Costa to get a grill for Christmas…you’ve got to grill it’, he adds.

The video garnered more than a million views but not without the 54-year-old being branded a ‘snob’ on social media.

“Pineapple on pizza can be controversial but this tastes undeniably lush.

Mamma Dough’s Founder Jake Harrison said the outlet wanted to create a ‘one-of-a-kind plant-based pizza’ on its menus. So, the Fi(Ve) Oh Hawaiian pizza was born.

• 1/4 cup water
• 1 tsp black salt (kala namak)
• 1/2 tsp turmeric

"Egg" White

• 1/4 cup soy milk or other plant milk
• 1/4 cup rice flour
• 1/4 cup soy yogurt (or other plant yogurt)
• 1 tsp black salt (kala namak)

Topping

• THIS Isn't Bacon Rashers
• 1 cup spinach
• wedge lemon

Instructions

Pancakes

• Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl and combine wet ingredients in a separate bowl
• Pour wet mixture into dry mixture bowl, whisk until smooth and rest batter for 5 minutes
• Pour 1/2 cup of batter onto a non-stick pan over medium heat. When the top starts to bubble, flip until it turns slightly golden in places. Repeat with rest of batter.

The "Eggs"

• Boil peeled sweet potato chunks in a pan until completely soft, drain, mash into a pulp and stir in rest of egg yolk ingredients
• Add all egg white ingredients into a bowl and whisk.
• Heat some oil in a frying pan to medium/high, fry 2 tbsp of egg white mixture for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Add 1 tbsp of egg yolk mixture to the middle of egg white, cover with lid for 2 mins. Repeat with the rest of the mixture.

Toppings and Serve

• Heat 1 tbsp oil in a frying pan, fry THIS isn’t Bacon rashers for 2 minutes each side
• Wilt the spinach in a small saucepan with 2 tbsp water
• Layer the pancakes on top of each other, top with spinach, the egg, THIS Isn’t Bacon and drizzle with lemon
