I’m sorry, you’ve lost me! What has anything you’ve said got to do with the concept of regenerative agriculture. You’re quite simply stating things as they exist today, with which I disagree.

As shown in this article, grassland and grazing “livestock” is not as sustainable as proponents would have the general public believe. https://plantbasednews.org/opinion/regenuary-con-veganuary-founder/

As stated above, on a global scale, switching to a plant based diet would free up an area of land the size of Australia, China, the European Union and the United States combined. Restoring the land dedicated to animal agriculture would also allow us to create carbon sinks to sequester about 8.1 billion metric tons of CO2 equivalent on a yearly basis for 100 years. There is simply no sustainable way to continue animal agriculture. https://josephpoore.com/Science%20360%206392%20987%20-%20Accepted%20Manuscript.pdf

Dear Sir/ Madam, May I respecfully suggest that if you don’t fully understand a subject it’s safer not to comment. In the meantime You might like to digest the following ( from an article in the Independant, quote from the Sustainable Food Trust). Please note the solutions.

“A total of 2.2 million tonnes of topsoil is eroded anually in the UK and over 17% of arable land shows signs of erosion, according to the Environment Agency.

52% of the world’s agricultural soil is already dead and 90%of the earths soil will be degraded by 2050.”

She adds: “To reverse this, real systematic change is required in the way land is managed. A return to mixed farming-intergrated crop production with grassland and grazing livestock, along with deeper rooting plants and returning organic waste to farmland ideally through compost-is essential to rebuild soil fertility and organic carbon levels. For every 1% increase in soil organic matter, the first foot of soil is able to hold an additional 16,000gallons of water per acre”.

Hi Rowland,

If the world was to transition to a plant-based diet we could rewild 75% of our current agricultural land, and not continue breeding animals that produce waste that ends up creating ocean dead zones. No need for “livestock on cover crops”.
Regenerative animal ag seems like a bandaid solution for people who want to continue consuming flesh. The clear solution is to switch to a plant based diet globally.

The key component of regenerative Ag is keeping “roots in the ground”. The use of livestock on cover crops is an efficient means of increasing topsoil and to allow for no till agriculture ( no labour or machinery needed, the animals do it for you at no cost).

Is grazing not a key component of regenerative ag?

Regenerative Ag as the name implies is about the regeneration and maintenance of spent arable land in order to grow crops with, wherever possible, no inputs of fertiliser, animal feeds or chemicals. It is now the fastest growing agricultural movement worldwide and has been endorsed by the IPCC.

Your link had nothing to do with regenerative AG, it seemed to be more obsessed with grazing.

Hi Rowland,

It would make more sense for you to provide the definition you believe fits “regenerative agriculture” as you have not actually clarified. Did you read the article linked?

Please give an accurate description of Regenerative Agriculture?

There is no sustainable way of producing meat, and the only “regenerative agriculture” is plant agriculture. Monocropping is not a problem caused by vegans, the increase in monocropping directly correlates to our increase in factory farming. If the world went plant-based, we would reduce crop land by 75%. Oat milk is not the problem. More info on “regenerative agriculture” here https://plantbasednews.org/opinion/regenuary-con-veganuary-founder/
