Comic Kevin Hart has partnered Beyond Meat as part of its Feed A Million+ pledge.

The plant-based tech company launched its pledge in a bid to ‘give back by providing access to good, nourishing meals at no cost’ during the coronavirus outbreak.

Frontline workers, food banks, and other organizations will be the beneficiaries of the free food.

Kevin Hart and Beyond Meat

Hart – who announced last Spring that he would be trying out a plant-based diet – announced yesterday that he was sending burgers to Northridge Hospital Medical Center in California.

He shared the news on Instagram, posting a video of himself saying: “I want to give a shout-out to my partners in crime over there at Beyond Meat. You guys are unbelievable, feeding over a million people right now through these crazy times is a must. I love the fact that you’ve stepped up and I want to do my part as your partner, I want to step-up as well.”

He captioned the post: “Today, I’m sending Beyond Burgers over to Northridge Hospital Medical Center with the help of @doordash & @hashtaglunchbag. @beyondmeat.”

Beyond Meat Feed A Million+ pledge

Beyond Meat started distributing the food yesterday (April 6). Announcing the pledge, a company statement said: “As we all come together to get through these challenging times, we at Beyond Meat feel a deep responsibility to give back by providing access to good, nourishing meals at no cost. Beginning Monday, April 6, Beyond Meat and our dedicated partners will work to donate and distribute more than 1 million Beyond Burgers as part of our Feed A Million+ pledge.

“Our goal has always been to use food as a vehicle for change and we’re fortunate to be in a position to put that into action now like never before. Our hope is that this donation will help make lives easier and contribute to the strong sense of community that is so vitally important during these unprecedented times.

“As part of our Feed A Million+ pledge, the Beyond Meat community is rallying together to give back via multiple channels. To reach those most affected and in need, we’ve donated Beyond Meat products to food banks across the country, and are working with partners to prepare and deliver donated Beyond Meat meals to hospitals, community centers and other frontline organizations.”

Nominate causes

The company is calling on its employees and fans to nominate causes that matter most to them, so it can donate meals to these causes through operational outposts set-up in previously closed restaurants in Los Angeles and New York, which it describes as ‘an effort that also re-creates jobs’.

“In addition, Beyond Meat ambassadors and notable friends are partnering with us to send meals to non-profit organizations coast to coast,” it said.

“We are so inspired by our community and all they’re doing to give back. We’re all in this together and we hope you are staying safe and taking care of each other. #GoBeyond.”
