McDonald’s first-ever vegan burger, the McPlant, is arriving at a host of new locations the US next month following successful trials months ago. But, it’s likely not what consumers will be expecting…
Following a booming launch in the UK, more customers across the pond can now get a taste of the co-created Beyond Meat patty.
So, why isn’t it vegan?

The fast-food giant “tested” the burger at eight restaurants as part of a ‘cautious march’ to adding more plant-based options to its menu.
Customers in customers in Irving, Texas; Carrollton, Texas; Cedar Falls, Iowa; Jennings, Louisiana; Lake Charles, Louisiana; El Segundo, California; and Manhattan Beach, California, were the first to try it.
The chain maintains the burger is only available for a “limited time.”
But now, it will be available at around 600 locations in San Francisco Bay and Dallas-Fort Worth.
However, unlike the meal in the UK, it is not vegan-friendly. And that’s because is it served with non-vegan mayonnaise and American cheese. The chain received criticism as a result.
Moreover, it is cooked on the same grill as beef patties and eggs.
“Guests can customize and request to hold the cheese and mayonnaise, or any other ingredients,” McDonald’s said in a statement.
Long-awaited vegan launch
Customers have waited a long time for McDonald’s to launch a vegan burger, with other giants such as Burger King and KFC leading the rush.
Earlier this month, the UK branch of McDonald’s confirmed the McPlant will arrive across all its 250 outlets.
It comes after the chain was pressed by protesters to commit to the environment and go entirely plant-based in the UK.
Despite this, McDonald’s has been praised for offering its McPlant at the same price as its famous Big Mac.

That’s great for the patty! However, I don’t understand why the UK gets to have it Vegan with Vegan cheese and Vegan mayo, but the U.S. doesn’t, and is also cooked with non-Vegan items (again, and again, comparing other countries to ours, who have launched Vegan products at these chains long before us…this has been the case.). Why not Vegan cheese and Vegan mayo
here too?
Far too many shady deals done with the suppliers, that’s why the UK moves forward a bit easier, unlike all the “boys clubs” that hold America back

I want this especially evil corporation to no longer exist. Nor would any ethical vegan I know or know of ever consider eating this evil money-grab travesty even if it were to be vegan which it decidedly is not. This corporation perpetuates mass torture and mass murder of nonhuman animals each and every day it has been a plague on our planet, a cancer, a blight. I want it gone forever PDQ.

Too many “boys clubs” in America, preventing change because it hurts their profits. Serving a meat free burger with standard mayo, just shows the mentality the bosses have.

Not that Id ever go in any of the McDonalds branches anyway if not just for a desperate emergency use of their (disgusting) toilets..
Kudos to BK, McDonalds, and KFC for offering plant based options to their menu.
These companies know there is a growing demand for plant based fast food to justify the cost of adding these items to their menus nationwide. It is up to every vegetarian to support these restaurants with your hard earned dollars.
Even if you are Vegan, support the fact these companies are making the effort to provide plant based options to their menu. All this Marxist corporate hatred I’m reading in these posts is self defeating and bit whiny.
Nobody is forcing you to eat there but you should at a minimum applaud their efforts even if they are not 100% vegan. If the demand for the plant based products is robust it will lower supply order from the feedlot animal meat processors which should be the goal of every individual who chooses a plant based diet. Thank you.
