Beyond Meat has landed global partnerships with the McDonald’s Corporation and Yum! Brands.
The plant-based startup will co-create and ‘crave-able and innovative plant-based protein menu items’ for Yum! Brands over the next several years. This includes companies such as KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell.
With McDonald’s, it will become the preferred supplier for the patty in the McPlant range. Also, Beyond Meat will work with the chain to co-develop plant-based chicken, pork, and egg.
‘An exciting milestone for Beyond Meat’
“We’re proud to enter into this strategic global agreement with McDonald’s,” said Beyond’s CEO Ethan Brown. [It’s] an exciting milestone for Beyond Meat, and [we] look forward to serving McDonald’s as they bring expanded choice to menus globally.
“We’ll combine the power of Beyond Meat’s rapid and relentless approach to innovation with the strength of McDonald’s global brand to introduce crave-able, plant-based items consumers will love.”
‘Consumer demand’
Chris Turner is Yum! Brands’ CFO. He also said: “Given the consumer response during recent tests with Beyond Meat… We’re excited about the long-term potential plant-based protein menu items have to attract more customers to our brands. Especially younger consumers.
Turner then concluded: “We expect this Beyond Meat partnership to strengthen our brands’ capability to offer delicious, plant-based menu items that are driven by consumer demand for more diverse protein options and our brands’ strategies in local markets.”

McDonald’s fries aren’t even plant based as they contain milk and beef products… Any ideas if they would change their fries to be plant based while offering a plant based burger? It would be annoying to go to McDonald’s and only be able to get the burger and have to get fries elsewhere! Definitely excited about the idea of them doing plant based burger!
That very much depends on region. In the UK, at least, they don’t contain any beef. I’m not sure about milk though. Would have to look that up.
Edit: potatoes, oil, a bit of dextrose (essentially sugar). That’s all that’s in the UK one. The vegan goujons stuff gets fried in the same oil though, so they list that there as well in case of allergens.
In the U.S., there is no beef or other animal meat or fat, but there is milk derivatives. Source: https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/product/small-french-fries.html#:~:text=Ingredients%3A%20Potatoes%2C%20Vegetable%20Oil%20(,Hydrolyzed%20Milk%20As%20Starting%20Ingredients.
I thought McDonald’s were going to do a Plant Based Burger in house and launching in Sweden?
