Luxury vehicle company BMW is introducing animal-free leather seats* that have been described as possessing ‘the highest grade and quality so far’.
According to car journalist Thomas Majchrzak, the company’s Sensatec leatherette seats – which it has offered for some time now – ‘exceed the feeling, comfort, and haptics of animal-based material’.
‘Soft and plush’
“Perforated and thus passively breathable, quilted structure for the sports seats, soft and plush, yet cruelty-free. From now on, most BMW five-Series worldwide will be sold with this seat [as] standard in the U.S,” Majchrzak said on Instagram.
“[It’s] a big win for all animals, humans harmed in the tanning process, the environment, and for our year-long effort to change the industry for the better.”
Vegan cars
Animal-rights charity PETA notes that whilst some car manufacturers are offering vegan leather interiors – other components of a car could be made from animal-derived materials.
PETA therefore urges consumers to contact each manufacturer directly to confirm that all components are entirely animal-free.
Plant Based News has contacted BMW to check whether any of its vehicles are completely free from animal-derived materials
