Europe’s biggest plant-based nutrition conference is coming to the UK for the first time next year, hosted by food sustainability organization ProVeg.

Scientific event VegMed will be held at King’s College London on October 12-13 2019. It is the sixth edition of the conference – and the first time it’s taking place outside Germany.

The two-day conference is called The Power of Plants: bringing plant-based nutrition into mainstream medicine. The first day is for medical professionals including physicians, scientists, medical students, nutritionists and those in related fields, with the second day open to the general public.

Plant-based speakers

High profile physicians Dr. Michael Greger and Dr.Michael Klapper, have already been confirmed to give keynote talks.

Further speakers will be announced in early 2019.

Organizers expect tickets, which are available here now, to sell out on both days.

Diet and lifestyle

“It is widely accepted that some of the UK’s biggest killers are preventable with diet and lifestyle, yet only a handful of hours are dedicated to nutritional education in medical professional training here in the UK,” Amy Odene, Manager of VegMed for ProVeg UK, said in a statement sent to Plant Based News.

“So we’re hosting VegMed to provide a much-needed platform for the latest research and information in plant-based nutrition, which can play a major and still largely underestimated role in preventing and reversing disease, improving overall health and reducing the strain on our increasingly under-pressure NHS.”

Plant-based expertise

VegMed is being brought to the UK by ProVeg UK in partnership with Plant-Based Health Professionals UK.

“I am delighted to be involved in bringing VegMed to the UK. The health benefits of a predominantly plant-based diet are still not fully appreciated by the medical community in the UK,” added Shireen Kassam added, Founder of Plant-Based Health Professionals UK.

“The conference will give us the opportunity to share UK expertise alongside some of the international pioneers in the field of plant-based nutrition.

“I hope the conference will inspire a new generation of healthcare professionals to use plant-based nutrition for disease prevention and reversal in their own clinical practice.”
