Prolific vegan advocate and public speaker Earthling Ed says the types of food people are stockpiling during the coronavirus (covid-19) crisis may cause the next pandemic.
The activist, who recently featured on the Plant Based News podcast, warned of the potential risk after many people during lockdown have bulk-bought items including chicken, bacon, and pork.
‘Systems of exploitation’
“When we look at chicken and pig farming, those are the two systems of animal exploitation that are most likely to cause the next pandemic,” Ed told PBN‘s Robbie Lockie.
“And so for all we know, this stockpiling of chicken products and pig products is actually contributing to a situation where we may be causing the next pandemic to be happening already.
‘Act responsibly’
“Of course it’s unlikely and slightly over-exaggerated, [but] the point of the matter is we don’t know when another disease is going to happen, we don’t know when the next outbreak is going to occur, and every second where we’re perpetuating the system where these diseases can occur they could occur.
“And so we have to act responsibly and quickly and that’s why going vegan can never be a thing we do in the future it always has to be something we do instantly.”
On the podcast, Ed also discusses topics including why he went vegan, how activism has given his life purpose, how he fights through fake news, and much more.
