Alan Cumming Insists COP26 Must Serve Plant-Based Food ‘To Protect The Planet’

Alan Cumming is pleading with politicians to serve exclusively plant-based food at the UN Climate Conference (COP26) later this year.

The X-Men star stressed the importance of a climate event leading the charge in light of the environmental impact caused by the meat and dairy industries.

Alan Cumming

In a letter penned to cabinet minister and COP26 President Alok Sharma, the actor called for a vegan-only menu at the event, which is being held in November.

He wrote: “Given that animal agriculture contributes to many of the serious environmental problems the planet is facing, I hope you’ll agree that serving meat while trying to fight climate change is like serving beer at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

“It’s irresponsible and unhelpful.

“If the goal of the COP26 summit is to protect the planet – as well as promote compassionate, responsible behavior – animal-derived foods have no place on the menu.”

COP26 urged to go plant-based

The letter came in a partnership with PETA. So far, more than 55,000 supporters have joined the calls alongside Cumming.

Additionally, a petition is circling online which outlines the ‘significant’ benefits of plant-based diets in tackling the climate crisis.

It reads: “Disappointingly, previous UN Climate Change conferences have offered very little plant-based foods.

“And, COP26 presents an opportunity for the UK government to set a global example in Glasgow, one of most vegan-friendly cities in the world.”

The United Nations stressed we have just 12 years to combat climate change

Politicians slammed

Earlier this year, a similar environment-focused political event took place in the UK. The Group of Seven (G7) summit last month brought together world leaders for the first time in almost two years.

Despite calls for completely plant-based food to be served, global leaders were slammed. This was for a ‘steak and lobster BBQ celebration’ they enjoyed at the event amid the climate crisis.

According to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the meeting was to ‘galvanist global action on fighting climate change’. Moreover, he said it will ‘create a healthy planet for our children and grandchildren’.

It’s in line with ‘ambitious’ targets to slash greenhouse gas emissions by over two-thirds within the next decade in the UK alone.

Twelve years to “save” the already irreversibly damaged planet when it took humanity decades upon decades of self-serving activity and institutions that plundered and raped all sentient species, plant life, and the Earth itself for resources and human benefit alone!

EVEN NOW, THE NOTION THAT ANIMALS [Nature, Earth, creation] “EXIST FOR OUR SAKE” has strong resonances throughout popular Christianity. It is only right that theologians should now mock “the folly” of this notion, but such belated protests would carry more weight if they were offered in a spirit of some penitence. Folly it must be that sees the whole world as our plaything, but it has also been a grievous folly for those who have had to suffer it. We suffer least the folly inflicted on others when it affects us not at all. No wonder that…Voltaire could claim against Christians that “those who believe absurdities will commit atrocities.” — Professor ANDREW LINZEY, a theologian at Oxford University

“We can’t change the world for animals without changing our ideas about animals. We have to move from the idea that animals are things, tools, machines, commodities, resources here for our use to the idea that as sentient beings they have their inherent value and dignity.” — Andrew Linzey

The Vatican even panned the movie “Avatar” for its pro-Nature theme because the Vatican assumes that Nature/animals are NOT as important as the “human person,” and objects to the “egalitarian vision of the ‘dignity’ of all living creatures.” According to the Vatican, “Such notions … end up abolishing the distinctiveness and superior role of human beings….” What dogmatic hostility to nonhuman Earthlings!

Why single out animals for special treatment? For 300,000 years we existed as foragers and hunters existing on the surpluses of nature without damaging the natural world. Ten thousand yrs ago we introduced agriculture, and for the first time ever one species was able to dictate their own food supply and the world changed forever. Nature doesn’t distinguish between sentient and non sentient.

I would be more impressed if he was demanding that FULLY SUSTAINABLE FOOD ( plant or animal ) be supplied.
